Artists' Legal Advice Services (ALAS)

Interest

Artists' Legal Advice Services (ALAS) is a legal clinic for creators operated by law students from both Osgoode and U of T. During one-on-one meetings, ALAS' volunteer entertainment and intellectual property lawyers provide summary legal advice to clients in the creative industries. Student volunteers help administer the clinic and assist with client management. Students also shadow ALAS' volunteer lawyers during client meetings and attend debrief sessions at the end of their clinic shift. ALAS also maintains a public-access legal database and aims to bring industry-relevant legal education events to Osgoode in the future. The clinic currently operates exclusively online.

Asian Law Students Association (ALSA)

The Asian Law Students Association (ALSA) is a student club committed to fostering a friendly student environment and working towards dismantling systemic barriers in the legal profession and beyond. We provide mentorship and networking opportunities, host socials, and work with our allies, including our main affiliate, the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers (FACL). We welcome all Asian law students and our allies to join us in implementing anti-oppression in the practice of lawyering and everyday life.

Black Law Students' Association (BLSA)

Competition Law Society of Osgoode (CLSO)

Interest

The Competition Law Society of Osgoode (CLSO) provides a platform for discussion, professional development, and networking for Osgoode Hall students interested in competition law, economic policy, consumer protection and regulation. The CLSO highlights current developments in competition law, offers insight into developing a career in competition regulation, and serves to bridge the gap between legal theory and practice.

Disability Collective of Osgoode

The Disability Collective of Osgoode is dedicated to creating a space for Osgoode students who identify as disabled to engage in collective advocacy and peer support. The Club's focus is on supporting and advocating for disabled students, but non-disabled allies and advocates are welcome to participate. We feel strongly that a space for students who identify as disabled is necessary in combating the isolation, pressure to self-advocate, and ongoing marginalization that students with disabilities at Osgoode currently face, as well as facilitating better access to the legal profession for disabled people.

Fair Change

Interest

Members of Fair Change work to reduce the perpetuation of poverty created by provincial offence tickets that are imposed on street-involved individuals (e.g. panhandling, loitering). Student advocates manage their client file(s) from start to finish, including conducting interviews, managing client relationships, drafting legal materials, and representing clients in pre-hearing negotiations, hearings of first instance, and appeal hearings.

First Generation Lawyers Club

Immigration and Refugee Law Society

The Immigration and Refugee Law Society (IRLS) is a student-run organization at Osgoode dedicated to better integrating Osgoode students within the fields of immigration and refugee law. IRLS further serves as a means for Osgoode students to connect with the vast immigration and refugee lawyer network in the Greater Toronto Area and beyond. Welcome to the Muslim Law Students' Association (MLSA) at Osgoode Hall Law School! The MLSA exists to provide a source of community for Muslim-identifying law students at Osgoode. Importantly, the MLSA welcomes ALL Muslim students, regardless of how they practice or whether they are currently practicing. We also celebrate the diversity of our Osgoode community, and hope to create an inclusive space for all folks, including our Black and LGBTQ+ Muslims. During the upcoming year, we will provide a range of programming, from social outings and community events, to opportunities for networking and professional development. The Osgoode Entertainment and Sports Law Association is an organization committed to fostering interest in entertainment and sports law among students. ESLA serves as a forum in which members may discuss relevant entertainment and sports law issues, as well as a social opportunity to connect on relevant entertainment and sports issues. ESLA provides opportunities for interaction between ESLA members and professionals in the private and public sector of the entertainment and sports law industry. Osgoode Hall French Club

The Osgoode Hall French Club seeks to promote bilingualism at Osgoode Hall. It is a conversation and social club that is interested in promoting the use of the French language both at Osgoode Hall and in the wider Ontario legal community. The French Club seeks to provide a forum in which students can improve and maintain their French language skills while enjoying themselves at social and educational events such as movie-nights and crepe sales. The Osgoode Hall French Club is particularly interested in providing a space for exchange students to socialize at Osgoode and also to become better acquainted with the City of Toronto. All levels of French are welcome. We are seeking two first year reps of any level of French fluency from the incoming class as well as more fluent members for VP positions.

Osgoode Hall Law Union (OHLU)

The Osgoode Hall Law Union is a chapter of the Law Union of Ontario consisting of students committed to advocacy for social justice. We operate from a position that is anti-colonial, anti-racist, anti-oppressive, anti-capitalist, feminist, and is rooted in principles of disability justice and transformative justice. We call for abolishing prisons, LandBack, Free Palestine, and liberation for all who are oppressed by capitalism and colonialism. Recently we have facilitated student organizing for a safe and equitable return to campus, supported teaching assistants picketing with Canadian Union of Public Employees Local 3903, hosted panels on movement lawyering, organized a trip to the Yale Rebellious Lawyering Conference, and hosted movement defence/legal observer training. We are dedicated to collectively re-imagining law to create worlds and futures of care and liberation for all.

The Osgoode Health Law Association seeks to provide a broad introduction to law students interested in health law careers and issues, encourage participation and intellectual growth in the field, and generate appreciation for the interaction between health law and other legal disciplines. The Health Law Association holds various events throughout the year including but not limited to: special interest panels; networking opportunities; a career panel; as well as a special production of resources and information regarding health law related issues.

The Osgoode OUTLaws is the 2SLGBTQIA+ student group at Osgoode Hall Law School. Our primary goals are to support 2SLGBTQIA+ students on campus, promote equality and diversity in the legal profession, and contribute to our community. We hold educational panels, networking and social events, and fundraisers. Every year, we put on The Wendy Babcock Drag Show, one of Osgoode's largest events.

Osgoode Panhellenic Association

The Osgoode Panhellenic Association (OPA) promotes Greek culture at Osgoode by providing students of Greek heritage a forum to come together, to spread awareness about Greek culture and values, and to serve and enrich the Osgoode Hall community. OPA events educate students about the law as it is practiced by lawyers who serve clients in languages other than English or French, such as Greek, as well as promote the idea of serving clients who speak Greek as a first language.

Osgoode Peer Support Centre (OPSC)

The Osgoode Peer Support Centre is an entirely student volunteer-driven service for Osgoode students seeking a positive space and a supportive individual to speak with about social, academic, financial, relationship, sexual orientation, discrimination, and other personal stressors. This initiative aimed at providing Osgoode students with a positive space where they can relax, have fun, and talk to their peers about what's on their minds. The OPSC operates in conjunction with Osgoode's Student Success and Wellness Counsellor to help alleviate the stresses associated with law school. The OPSC also operates as a point of contact for students who want to learn about the services that are available at Osgoode, York University, and the city of Toronto that deal with various issues.

Osgoode Privacy Law Society (OPLS)

The Osgoode Privacy Law Society (OPLS) is a student-led club composed of a group of people passionate about all things privacy law. We are dedicated to increasing awareness about interdisciplinary privacy issues in industries such as health, employment, and technology. Osgoode's Tax Law Association (TLA)

The OTLA was formed to create a positive learning environment for its members to learn and discuss all matters related to tax law. It is dedicated to helping Osgoode students understand the intricacies of tax law and delve deeper into current issues on the subject. Furthermore, the OTLA has an additional role to aid and educate first year students regarding the possibility of a career in tax law by providing useful information that will help students decide if tax law is the career for them.

Pro Bono Students Canada (PBSC)

PBSC is a multiple award-winning law student program that provides legal services without charge to organizations and individuals in need in Canada. We are the only national law student program in Canada, the only national pro bono program in the country, and the only national pro bono service organization anywhere in the world. PBSC has chapters at all 22 law schools in Canada. Each year, PBSC provides 1400-1500 law students with volunteer opportunities to develop their legal skills by serving up to 400 organizations from coast to coast. PBSC volunteers increase access to justice in Canada by providing high quality, professional legal assistance to vulnerable populations and individuals.
